About

I create images to feel like the aftertaste of a dream: familiar, yet impossible to hold. In my world, images are less taken than they are found. They’re pulled from the air like secrets waiting to be kept.

Drawn to the way light bends and lingers, Christian Carrillo creates images that feel both intimate and timeless. His journey began with a gifted Nikon FM film camera which still shapes his process today. Favoring mood over perfection, Christian’s work invites the viewer into moments steeped in nostalgia, romance, and quiet tension.

Growing up on a vineyard, Christian learned to see beauty in patience and imperfection in the way weather left its mark on the grapes, in the slow unfolding of seasons, and in the quiet labor that gives way to something worth savoring. This early intimacy with the land taught him that stories, like wine, deepen with time and are shaped as much by their flaws as by their perfection.

In a world that often chases flawlessness, Christian embraces the poetry of imperfection. Grain, blur, and lens flares are not mistakes but blueprints of a moment fully lived. The harshness of flash contrasted against the warmth of film. He sees film photography as a dance of unpredictability where motion and flow breathe life into the frame in ways sterile precision so many chase rarely can. The result is imagery that feels unpolished in the most intentional way, carrying with it warmth, texture, and the authenticity of “real” life.

Christian brings an editorial eye and romantic sensibility to work in commercial, brand, and fashion image making as well. He approaches each project like a conversation balancing the narrative needs of a brand with his instinct for atmosphere and story. Christian’s goal is to create imagery that is as strategic as it is soulful. Work that resonates and connects people. Welcome to Archive of Christian, a collection of his work in image-making across the years.

Artist Statement

I grew up among rows of vines, where the seasons revealed themselves in the curl of a tendril, the blush of ripening fruit, and the patient alchemy of time. That rhythm shaped the way I see… slowness, imperfection, and texture became the soul of my work. Image making holds the same truth: the grain, the light leaks, the quiet mistakes that make an image feel alive and shares the story of the person and people who made it. I am drawn to the poetry of what is slightly undone, the way motion softens edges and breath deepens the moment.

My lens chases the unpolished and the unrepeatable: wind in hair, silk mid-sway, laughter that spills beyond the frame, unintentional moments of bliss, eye contact, and more. I want images to feel like a lived-in memory, not a staged one. Images that carry the warmth of touch, the shadow of longing, the spaces where imagination lingers. I chase the intersection of real and romantic.

Everything I make is in some way about love and intimacy… its presence, its ache, its impossibility. Desire threads through my images, not always as a subject but as an atmosphere: the tension between what is and what is almost. I create images as a way of keeping hold of what can’t stay still, what is alive. My name is Christian Carrillo and welcome to Archive of Christian. I believe the best photos feel like they are pulled straight from the archives and have nostalgia, no matter how recent or far the memory.
